Weekly Act of Kindness – Character Matters
Character is what you do when no one is watching. This week, challenge yourself to do the right thing—not for attention, not for praise, and not because it’s required, but because it’s simply the right thing to do.
Hold the door. Include someone who feels left out. Be honest. Be respectful. Stand up for others. Those small choices, made consistently, shape who you are and the kind of school we become together.
This week’s challenge: Do one kind thing each day that no one told you to do—and don’t expect credit for it. Let your character speak for you.

However, because temperatures are forecasted to drop Sunday night, we may need to re-evaluate based on conditions Monday morning.
In the unlikely event of a significant weather emergency resulting in widespread power outages, we will utilize every available resource to keep you informed.
Please stay tuned to our Facebook pages, school website, and automated alert system for the latest updates.
Thank you for your patience, and stay safe.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding students for the positive impact they have on our schools and community every day.

🌟 Weekly Act of Kindness: Keep Growing 🌟
We have seen so much growth from many of you this year — especially on your mid-year assessments. You should be proud of that. But now is the most important time of the year to take that growth to the next level, for yourself and for our school.
This week, think about how you can continue to grow as a friend. Are you including others, showing respect, and being someone your classmates can count on? Kindness is often simple — showing up, listening, and treating others well.
Also ask yourself how you can elevate academically. Can you focus a little more, ask for help when you need it, or put extra effort into your work? Small choices make a big difference.
Your act of kindness this week is to keep growing — in how you treat others and how you challenge yourself. When you grow, our school grows too.

King, Jr. Day.

Due to predicted overnight weather, Swain County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, January 15th. Buses will not run on icy roads.
However, we will continue to monitor weather conditions overnight and notify you of any changes as soon as possible.

This week, let’s focus on giving our best in everything we do. Whether you’re taking a test, competing in a game, working through a tough class, or simply showing up for a friend who needs you, your effort matters.
We can’t always control the outcome, the score, or the grade, but we can control our effort.
Effort is a choice. It’s something you decide every day, in every moment. Choosing to give your best shows respect for yourself and kindness toward others.
When you give your best, you’re saying: I care. And that choice can inspire the people around you to do the same.
Let’s make this week one where we choose effort, even when it’s hard because that choice can make all the difference.

As we begin 2026, remember that your past does not have to define your future. This new semester offers you the chance to reset and grow. If you weren’t the best-behaved student last semester, you have the power to change your path today. If your grades weren't where you wanted them to be, you can start putting in the work now to fix it. Even if you weren't the best friend you could have been, you can choose to lead with kindness and loyalty moving forward.
Your act of kindness this week is to practice accountability with a positive outlook. Instead of dwelling on old mistakes, take one specific step toward being the person you want to become. By deciding to show up differently, you not only improve your own life but also inspire those around you to do the same. What will you do today to make this semester your best one yet?

This week, pause and think about how your choices impact others.
💬 Before you speak: Will my words lift someone up?
🤝 When you see someone left out: How can I help them feel included?
🌟 At the end of the day: Did my actions make today better for someone else?
🧠 When I’m frustrated: How can I respond with respect?
🏫 At school: Would I be proud of how I’m treating others?
❓ This week: If everyone acted like me, what kind of school would we have?
Small choices. Big impact. Let’s choose kindness.
