At Swain Middle School, our mission is simple: to prioritize our students in a welcoming environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Each morning, our students recite the SMS Student Pledge alongside the Pledge of Allegiance:

"I pledge to give my best each day—for myself, for my classmates, and for Swain Middle School. I will work hard, show respect, and help create a school where everyone belongs."

This pledge reflects the values that define our school community. It reminds us that success is built through effort, respect, responsibility, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous growth. Every decision we make is centered on helping students reach their full potential.

As we begin another school year, we remain committed to providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences that prepare students for success in high school and beyond. Our teachers create classrooms where students are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, collaborate effectively, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Character Education continues to be an important part of the Swain Middle School experience. We intentionally foster the development of qualities such as integrity, empathy, responsibility, and resilience, helping students become not only successful learners but also positive contributors to their school and community.

We are also continuing our work through the Marzano High Reliability Schools framework, which supports our focus on continuous improvement and student achievement. This process helps us strengthen school culture, enhance instructional practices, and ensure that every student has access to a safe, supportive, and highly effective learning environment.

In addition, we are proud to be part of the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative. Through this partnership, we are expanding opportunities for innovation, career awareness, and real-world learning experiences that help students connect their education to future possibilities. This work supports our vision of preparing students to be successful, adaptable, and ready for whatever path they choose.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom, and we encourage every student to become involved in athletics, clubs, fine arts, and other extracurricular opportunities. These experiences help students build confidence, develop new interests, and create meaningful connections with their peers and school community.
